TC Boiler & Piping had the honor of participating in Arkema’s Contractor Safety Day on September 24, 2026, at the Houston Area Safety Council facility in Pasadena, Texas. The event gave our team an opportunity to contribute to an important industry conversation, introduce our newest workplace safety initiative and celebrate two TC Boiler leaders whose commitment to safety and operational excellence earned individual recognition from Arkema.
During the event, TC Boiler delivered the keynote presentation introducing 720° Alpha Awareness, a practical safety habit designed to help workers recognize the hazards that exist above, below and all around them. The day became even more meaningful when TC Boiler President Justin Moss and Safety Manager Jennifer Ernst each received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Arkema. Together, these moments represented what safety leadership should look like: developing stronger habits, sharing ideas that can protect people and recognizing those who consistently help move safety culture forward.
That reality led TC Boiler & Piping to develop 720° Alpha Awareness: the safety habit of performing two complete 360-degree safety sweeps of your entire being.
Introducing 720° Alpha Awareness
Traditional safety language often tells workers to maintain 360-degree awareness. The problem is that 360 degrees represents a flat circle and the hazards surrounding a worker do not exist on a flat plane. Hazards can exist overhead or below the walking surface. Others can develop behind equipment, inside an active work area or wherever multiple crews and tasks intersect.
The first sweep is external. It directs workers to deliberately examine the environment around them, looking above, below, ahead and behind for equipment, changing conditions, stored energy, simultaneous operations and other potential hazards.
The second sweep is internal. It asks the worker to assess personal readiness, positioning, focus, physical condition and the choices being made before the task begins.
Together, those two sweeps create a more complete approach to situational awareness.
Two seconds. Four looks. Every task. Every time.
Turning Awareness Into a Repeatable Habit
The purpose of 720° Alpha Awareness is not to create another slogan or add an unnecessary step to the workday. It is designed to make a critical safety behavior simple enough to remember and practical enough to repeat.
Before beginning a task, workers should pause and look:
Up
Down
Around
Within
Workers should repeat the process when conditions change, when another crew enters the area, when equipment begins moving or whenever something no longer matches the original plan. Those brief pauses create an opportunity to recognize a hazard before exposure occurs. A complete safety sweep can reveal overhead work, dropped-object potential, trip hazards, unstable footing, line-of-fire exposure, nearby equipment movement or another worker entering the task area. The internal portion of the check can also help someone recognize distraction, fatigue, poor positioning or uncertainty about the work.
The principle is straightforward:
Take two seconds. Run 720°. Get to work.
Those two seconds can create the awareness needed to make a better decision, correct a condition or stop and ask a question before proceeding.
Safety Awareness Includes the Entire Person
One of the central ideas behind 720° Alpha Awareness is that safety is not limited to observing the physical environment. A worker may identify every visible hazard and still be at risk if fatigue, distraction, stress, complacency or uncertainty affects the decisions that follow. That is why the second safety sweep turns inward.
Workers are encouraged to consider whether they understand the task, feel prepared to perform it and remain fully engaged with the conditions around them. That internal awareness is not separate from jobsite safety. It is part of it. Creating space for that personal assessment supports a culture in which speaking up, asking questions and stopping work are treated as responsible actions.
Recognizing Outstanding Achievement
Arkema Contractor Safety Day also provided an opportunity to recognize individuals whose leadership has made a meaningful contribution to safety and performance.
Arkema presented Outstanding Achievement Awards to TC Boiler & Piping President Justin Moss and Safety Manager Jennifer Ernst.
Their recognition was a proud moment for the entire Wolf Pack.
Leadership sets the direction of an organization, but meaningful safety performance requires more than policies and expectations. It requires visible commitment, accountability and the willingness to keep improving how people are protected.
Justin’s leadership has helped establish safety as a foundational business value throughout the Wolfpack. Jennifer’s work supports the systems, communication and field engagement necessary to turn that value into action.
Although the awards bear their names, the achievement also reflects the employees who carry those expectations into the field every day. Leaders, safety professionals, project teams, supervisors and craftspeople build strong safety performance together.
We congratulate Justin and Jennifer on this well-earned recognition and thank Arkema for acknowledging their contributions. We’re proud to have both of them leading our teams.
Moving Safety Forward After Arkema Contractor Safety Day
Arkema Contractor Safety Day demonstrated the value of bringing contractors, safety professionals and industry leaders together to exchange ideas and recognize the people advancing safety within their organizations.
For TC Boiler & Piping, the event was an opportunity to do more than discuss safety. It allowed us to share a practical initiative developed to influence everyday behavior and reinforce a fundamental expectation: every person should take the time to understand the full environment before beginning work.
720° Alpha Awareness will continue to be developed as part of TC Boiler’s broader commitment to workplace safety, leadership development and continuous improvement.
We are proud of the team members who represented TC Boiler, proud of Justin Moss and Jennifer Ernst for earning Outstanding Achievement Awards and grateful to Arkema for giving us the opportunity to introduce this initiative. Safety is not a single presentation, award or measurement. It is a responsibility renewed with every task and every decision.
Built on Safety. Driven by Excellence.
